GiddyUp Oxford at The Wheatsheaf 31 July
There were some cool sounds happening at The Wheatsheaf, Oxford last Sunday! I’m not sure where else in England you can go down to your local pub on a Sunday afternoon and hear some of the best southern rock being played by a live band?! Johnny’s Sexual Kitchen is made up of one talented bunch of musicians. Playing covers by some of our favourite artists, to name just a few- like Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blackberry Smoke and more. Every time we hear Moose play guitar we can’t believe how lucky we are to watch him in such an intimate space. Surely we’ve seen him play on Austin City Limits? If not, he should! Jock’s voice carries the band with no problem – his voice suits the repertoire as though they were his own songs when he sings. It’s great to hear Westy’s melodic sax being played on these songs – along with a tight rhythm section.

Other acts featured on the day included the amazing blues duo Sal Moore and Tony Batey, new indie band on the block Freemantle, Song and Supper Rooms featuring John on ukulele along with Mark on bass and Simon on cajon playing original songs and some choice selections of unique covers and our duo Purple May. An eclectic mix of music played throughout the day into the evening, we like to think keeping listeners entertained throughout the show!
